The main character and heroine of Descendants of Dust. The story is centered around Rae’s life. She’s an introverted twenty-four year old communication specialist with a photographic memory and a deep desire to see the world. She manages all the electronics for a co-op farm (N3C) to fulfill her five-year service requirement as a citizen of the Lake Michigan West Province. Rae’s call-sign is Ghost.

Declan Loche is a thirty-year-old owner of Anselm Security Service – a dome and bunker construction company that his ancestor Anselm Loche founded. He’s also the head of House Anselm- one of many Houses that were formed by powerfully Flarians after the flares first hit Earth. Donovan has inherited skills from both sides of his family. Donovan’s nickname call-sign is Anselm.

Dr. Esmond Matthews is a 58 year old physician at the Baylake dome in the Lake Michigan West province. Friends with Donovan’s late father and Avi Abaroa, Matthews is the Head of Medvac, an urgent care facility that caterers to patients exposed to the P-hex virus from flares.

Boone Owen is thirty and Kiona’s significant other. He spent time in the Armed Forces, built bunkers, then took the Operational Maintenance Supervisor’s job at N3C. 

Kiona is a twenty-six year old mixed Indonesian American who’s aunt is governor of the Lake Michigan West province. She has a younger brother, Jeru, and is N3C’s co-op administrator.

Jeru Abaroa is the eighteen-year-old brother of Kiona and like an adopted younger brother to Rae. He grew up like both Kiona and Rae to be self-sufficient and hard-working, but that doesn’t stop him from having fun. His favorite pastime is tinkering with fireworks and his love of Pistol Pete’s barbeque is unending. 

Avi Abaroa is the provincial governor of Lake Michigan West province. She is known the “Power Broker” and is an influential member of the provincial governors consortium. Avi wields significant influence in the Assembly and can be  the female version of a bull in a china shop when crossed.

Tomas Baez is N3C’s Operations Foreman and second-in-command to Kiona Abaroa. He’s twenty-eight years old and the younger cousin of Carlos Baez

Yola is a thirty-three years old and the physician at N3C. 

Quinn Ross is Rae’s backup communication tech at N3C. He’s twenty-eight years old and secretly married to Marie Ross. 

One of Donovan’s crew and his second-in-command as a liason for House Anselm. Rylan often is traveling to inter-House functions on behalf of Donovan. He is thirty-two years old and easy to recognize as an albino over 6 feet 5 inches (1.98 meters) tall. His call sign is Specter.

Also a member of Donovan crew, Fern is the sister of Rylan Gable. Unlike Rylan who is tall, Fern is very short, just over 5 foot 4 (1.63 meters). Extroverted and vivacious, Fern easily makes friends but she’s especially good at recognizance and retrieval jobs. Her call sign is Spark.

One of Donovan’s crew and his second-in-command for Anselm Security Services. Garrett is thirty-years old and is the old brother of twin sisters, Moira and Anya Fischer. Within House Anselm his call sign is Stone.

Kirt is the Head of WMA (World Meteorological Authority). He’s thirty-six years old and has a Phd in Meteorology, specializing in Flare Activity. His work on flare prediction events has saved hundreds of lives. The provinces depend on his flare activity warning and notices. 

Dr Gabriel Hammond is WGA’s Director of Medical Health Services. He’s forty-seven years old and has spent his life work studying the effects of the flare’s P-hex virus on humans. As director of WGA Medical he is tasked with finding a cure or solution to save those exposed to the P-hex.

Boris “Knucles” Gustav is Gabe Hammond’s right hand bodyguard. He’s an ex-military guy who met Hammond when he and his niece became bloom exposed. He is a powerful earth wielder who is loyal to Hammond in exchange for his niece to remain safe within a domed eastern city. Boris is her legal guardian – his sister and brother-in-law died from the same flare that exposed him.

Jovana Bryce is the Head of Baylake Security – a law enforcement department with Baylake’s administrative and municipal services. She’s a striking-looking platinum blonde with an eye on moving up within Baylake’s administrative organization or transferring to WGA if the right opportunity comes along. 

Carlos Baez is the Archon Steward (like a mayor) of Baylake. He’s thirty-four and has the top position within Baylake’s administrative and municipal services. He’s also an older cousin to Tomas Baez.
