Descendants of Dust
Military forces used to protect a province, maintaining its independence from other provinces.
Part of WGA’s governing body made up by members selected by each province’s governor. In many cases, members come from the unpublished Houses within provinces. A member retains their position unless one of three things happen: a) they’re found to have committed violations against WGA, b) they are given a no-vote of confidence by their peers and governor within their province, or 3) they die.
During a flare weather-like event, blooms form as clouds in the atmosphere as a result of alien spores casting off their hard outer casing in reaction to enough carbon dioxide. Spores stick to human skin on contact.
A protected structure, sometimes found underground which is used to protect people from bloom spores. Bunkers have elaborate air-handing facilities. Co-op farm residences have bunkers although smaller field bunkers exist for emergencies. Portable bunkers are expensive top-of-the-line models used by construction crews when working in the open.
A low end Icom that the public uses. Worn on a wrist like a watch, comm bands can send and receive voice and text messages on an open, unencrypted frequency.
Cities built within an enclosed series of octagon-like bubbles that protect their human occupants from flares and the resulting blooms.
An event that resembles a purple thunderstorm but moves at the speed of a wide tornado; It’s caused when an alien fungi produces a bloom of spores that “rain” in a moving shower-like a curtain across the horizon. The spores house a bacteriophage which contains the P-hex retrovirus.
Humans carrying the P-hex virus and markers within their bodies. Can also be referred to as bloomers. Once exposed in a bloom, Flarians are either nulls or gain mental/elemental abilities.
Permanent non-domed (open-air old Earth style) cities where Flarians live unless they been accepted as a member of a House.
Flarians with extraordinary abilities when P-hex mutates their bodies and brains. The gifted can have mental (empathy, telepathy, illusion, persuasion, or clairvoyance) or elemental powers (air, earth, fire, light, or water).
The name of the asteroid that passed by the moon. Named after George Hexford, an amateur astrologist and Astro-physicist who discovered the asteroid heading for earth.
Formed by powerful Flarians in the early days after flares destroyed old Earth governments, heads of Houses got together to form WGA. Some heads of Houses also became provincial Governors while others stepped into roles within the newly formed Assembly of Provinces. But Houses remained a powerful influence within the various aspects of WGA functions. Almost all House members are Flarians and some are also Assembly members or Provincial Governors.
Single and dual person vehicles that can skim above the ground; use for transport. Lower end models are like bicycles and mopeds. Higher end models go as fast as motorcycles but fly higher.
Multi-person vehicles similar to a car, transport, or truck that holds up to six people depending on the size. Operate like a hoverboard.
Larger vehicles that carry goods or perform a function. Some work within manufacturing facilities, co-ops, or between domes and provinces.
The sealing structure used to isolate and protect a bubble in a dome.
Intercommunication device the size of a smart phone. A cross between a smart phone and a walkie-talkie the devices used encrypted frequencies to secure voice and data transmissions. Houses set their Icoms to specific frequencies and encryption to prevent spying by other Houses and entities.
An area roughly covering the old Earth states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois. Ruled by a provincial governor and their adminstrative support organization and military.
The WGA agency setting policy for those exposed by a bloom. WGA Medical is responsible for researching potential cures to save ill Flarians and for finding a panacea to inoculate against the bloom’s P-hex virus.
A medically trained person who has a physician assistant background. Med-techs advance to become doctors.
The WGA agency used to deal with those exposed by a bloom. Medvac is like an urgent care facility geared to help Flarians survive their initial exposure. Once the Flarian is stable, they go to live in a open-aired Flarian community. The rational is for unexposed to remain within domed cities or supporting co-ops with protective bunkers.
North Central County Co-op. A produce farm closest to the LWM domed city in the North Central American Province.
Flarians with no extraordinary abilities obtained from the P-hex virus mutating their bodies and brains.
A cure for the P-hex.
The nickname for the flare bloom as in “a person got the Purple Hex”.
Pre-defined large sections within the old Earth countries now run by Provincial Governors and their armed military forces.
Isolation cabins used at a co-op when a person becomes exposed to a bloom and is sick. The individual is cared for until Medvac can retrieve them.
The alien material found with GeoHex51’s residual asteroid that was retrieved and brought to earth by several governments in a rush to study it. Spores contain a microscopic alien fungi that carries the P-hex retrovirus.
Formed by the remanants of world governments after their collapse when the first flares occurred, the WGA is composed of Provincial Governors and their Assembly members. Each provincial is allowed two active Assembly members and an alternative, should an Assembly member succumb to the bloom.
A world-wide agency within WGA that monitors flares, looking to predict activity and warn the population to take cover prior to a flare event.
